Planet-spares.com is the online trading name of John McKenna Lawnmower Spares Ltd.
The company was founded in 1976 by John McKenna and his wife Charlie.
John and Charlie took out a loan of £600.00 from the Halston Street credit union and bought a load of Qualcast spare parts for hand mowers, rotary and cylinder mowers all in three big crates. They loaded up the boot of their Fiat 124 with the spares, covered them up with a blanket to hide from prying eyes and off they went with a flask of tea and a parcel of sandwiches!
John sold the spare parts direct to the lawnmower trade on both sides of Dublin, north and south. The southside was where the bulk of the dealers were but being a born and bred northsider he compared crossing the Liffey to visiting to a foreign country!
In his first year of trading the company sold £9,250 and in 1977 doubled that to nearly £20,000 and he thought he had made it.
Much has changed in the intervening years and the range of spare parts stocked has expanded to include:

- Ride on lawnmower Battery’s, Belts, Blades and Deck replacement parts
- Strimmer and Weedeater spare parts and consumables

The roar of the Celtic Tiger brought us into the area of construction equipment, labour saving tools and garden equipment and powerwashers.
